I love this comment from reader Karen about HOW MUCH I FEEL: "Wasn’t sure I wanted to read this series bc I’m a native Miamian and no one ever gets us right. Decided to give it a shot and I must say this is the first book who understands us down here in the 305. My mother helped hijack a plane in the 60s to escape communist Cuba. My dad came before Castro. I LOVED the references to Miami drivers, guárapo, ropa vieja, Calle Ocho, and everything else that makes us unique. After reading it, I turned to my husband and told him “She got us right”. So, from a Cuban American who has lived all her 47 years in this beautiful but crazy city, thank you for the accurate representation. It’s much appreciated."
Thank you so much, Karen! That comment made my day yesterday!
As writers, we're encouraged to "write what we know," and while I've spent a lot of time in Miami and South Florida in my life, I didn't know it as well as I needed to set a series there. It was so much fun to really delve into the culture of Miami in a much deeper way and to try to bring it to life in these new books. I had TONS of help along the way from native and transplanted Miamians. as well as several readers originally from Cuba who graciously lent their time to this project and shared their stories with me. I appreciate everyone who helped to make sure this diverse, exciting city was well represented. I'm looking forward to learning more about Miami as the series moves forward. 🌴
